Weed Brownies – Vegan Recipe

weed-brownies-vegan-recipe

Weed brownies continue to reign supreme in the realm of marijuana-infused delicacies. They’re simply appealing, and dark chocolate can mask unpleasant cannabis terpene flavours. This makes weed brownies the ideal edible dish for those using cannabis in recipes for the first time. But while many of us can grab a box of brownies and go, finding a vegan option is a bit more complicated.

Have you ever wanted to try cannabis-infused brownies but couldn’t because you’re a vegan? Fortunately, our easy brownie recipe forgoes eggs and dairy but still makes for a chewy and delicious mixture every time. The vegan weed brownies recipe is also a must-try for anyone looking to expand their repertoire of vegan recipes.

Start Making Vegan Weed Brownies

Cannabis is the perfect ingredient for chocolate confections, from complicated chef editions to simple boxed brownies. Fortunately, you can customize these brownies according to your personal preferences and tolerance level. You will first have to determine how you will use marijuana in your pot brownies.

Infusing Weed into Brownie

As you already know, you need oil or butter to make vegan weed brownies. This makes using a canna-oil or cannabutter to infuse brownies with cannabis a relatively easy method. We used cannabis coconut oil to test this recipe. When making your oil, use a THC calculator to estimate the dosage.

If you find it too hard to make your cannabutter, you can use a THC or CBD distillate instead of THC-infused coconut oil. This recipe has also been tested by combining Ripple distillate (water-soluble) with vanilla. So, you can also mix it with the rest of the batter with a clear conscience.

The distillate is a fantastic alternative for beginners preparing “baked” brownies. You don’t have to make your canna oil, and you don’t have to worry about terpenes. Because of their concentration, they’re also very easy to dose.

Making Cannabis Oil

In cooking, cannabis-infused oil is one of the most versatile ingredients. Cannabis-infused cooking oil can be used in various ways, including baking goodies, making popular sauces, spreading on pasta, or simply frying breakfast eggs.

Cannaoil is a necessary ingredient when making pot brownies. To produce your cannabis oil, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Double boiler
  • Oven
  • A sheet pan for baking
  • Parchment paper
  • Scissors or a grinder
  • Cheesecloth or a strainer
  • 1 cup decarboxylated cannabis flowers
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (coconut oil is also acceptable)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the cannabis by grinding it. Use flowers/buds as they’re the most potent parts, and you will get a more accurate measurement, but you can also use the whole plant. Make sure it is large enough to fit through the sieve or cloth. Whatever fits in terms of size will make it into the finished product.
  2. Decarboxylate your cannabis by spreading it evenly on a baking pan and roasting at 240 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes.
  3. Wrap the ground cannabis in cheesecloth and knot it up.
  4. Combine the oil and cannabis in a slow cooker, double boiler, or saucepan.
  5. Cook the mixture in a slow cooker over low heat for 4-6 hours, stirring regularly. You can also use a double boiler and cook the mixture on low heat for 6-8 hours (8 hours is recommended). Finally, simmer the mixture for 3 hours in a saucepan, stirring regularly to avoid burning it.
  6. Use a strainer to collect the oil. If you use a cheesecloth, don’t squeeze it, as this will add more chlorophyll to the oil. You can dispose of plant materials you no longer need.
  7. That’s it. You can keep the oil for two months! You can also keep it refrigerated to extend the shelf life.

Note: Regardless of the procedure, the oil temperature should not exceed 240 F.

For best results, vegan food lovers should prepare the canna oil used in this recipe from vegetable oil. However, coconut oil is a good substitute if you prefer the subtle flavour it imparts to the finished product. Although chocolate chips aren’t required, they add a touch of indulgence and richness to the brownies (for a completely vegan brownie recipe, make sure the chocolate chips are dairy-free).

Decarboxylation Explained

You need to perform one crucial step for your cannabis edibles to work correctly. Decarboxylation is the name of this step. It simply means that you need to activate the THC to get the psychoactive effect you want.

Decarboxylation is how chemicals in cannabis, such as THC, become active. Heat and time are the two main catalysts for decarboxylation. Partial decarboxylation occurs as cannabis dries over time. For this reason, certain cannabis flowers are also tested for traces of THC.

Due to the extremely high temperatures of smoking and vaporizing, cannabinoids are rapidly decarboxylated, making them immediately available for inhalation. While our lungs can easily absorb decarboxylated cannabinoids in vapour form, these cannabinoids must be present in edibles for our bodies to absorb them during digestion.

Heating cannabis at a lower temperature for a more extended period helps complete the process. This way, you can decarboxylate the cannabinoids while maintaining the integrity of the material so you can incorporate it into food.

In a slow cooker, you can also decarboxylate cannabis with solvents like cooking oil or lecithin. These methods produce infusions that you can use in various recipes for edibles, creams, and even cannabis capsules. They work regardless of how you take them, as they’re made from decarboxylated cannabis.

Make Vegan Weed Brownies – Recipe

Using the proper recipe, technique, and ingredients is the only way to make pot brownies. Fortunately, you’ve already learned the recipe, and we’re here to help you with the last two components. You can get the rest of the ingredients once you decide how to infuse your brownies with cannabis.

Ingredients:

  • Cannabis-infused coconut oil or vegetable oil (or cannabutter if you’re not making them dairy-free). If you’re infusing CBD or THC distillate, you can use ordinary oil.
  • Vanilla extract
  • Brown sugar
  • Flour
  • Baking powder
  • Vegan chocolate chips or cocoa powder
  • Aquafaba (as an egg substitute)

Vegan Weed Brownies Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 320°F and prepare an 8 “x8” baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the cocoa powder mixture or chocolate chips in a double boiler over medium heat, stirring constantly. Reduce the temperature to room temperature.
  3. Mix the aquafaba, brown sugar, and baking powder while the chocolate cools. To make aquafaba opaque and thick, beat it with a stand mixer or hand mixer on medium speed. Continue beating the meringue mixture (on high speed) until it is ribbon-like and glossy.
  4. All dry ingredients should be mixed in a medium bowl.
  5. In a separate bowl, fold the chocolate into the meringue mixture. Begin pouring one-third of the meringue into the chocolate with a spatula until both components are almost completely combined. Combine the chocolate mixture with the meringue in the large bowl and mix them thoroughly with a spatula.
  6. Add the dry ingredients and mix them into the meringue mixture in thirds until thoroughly combined.
  7. Transfer the batter to an 8 “x8” baking sheet and spread evenly.
  8. Preheat the oven before baking (to 350°F or 176°C) and put the brownies in for 12 to 15 minutes.
  9. Now it’s time to remove the baking sheet from the oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips, half dandies and cookies. Bake for another 10 minutes, or wait until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the s’more brownie cool completely before cutting into nine squares.
  11. Your vegan weed brownies are ready!

Tip: Beat the sugar and aquafaba at medium speed at first. As the mixture becomes opaque, increase the speed gradually. It takes a little longer to make this meringue because sugar is added at the beginning of the process. Therefore, expect to need about 10 minutes with your mixer (maybe a little more).

We also recommend adding marshmallows to give your cannabis-infused brownies a touch of s’mores! Just melt the vegan marshmallows over your weed brownies and boom. Now you have a treat you can enjoy all year long.

Pot Brownies Frosting

To prepare your vegan weed brownie frosting, you’ll need:

  • 6 Tablespoons softened unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder, unsweetened
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • One ¼ powdered sugar
  • Soy milk

Beat the butter, cocoa powder, and salt in a medium mixing bowl with a hand or stand mixer until light and fluffy. A fork will do if you don’t have a mixer (and it’s a great workout).

Scrape down the sides of the large mixing bowl with a knife, then add the powdered sugar slowly. Start with three tablespoons of milk and work your way up to 5 tablespoons, depending on the texture. Light and fluffy, yet not runny and easy to spread, is the batter’s goal…

Use a rubber spatula and spread the frosting evenly over the pot brownies once they are entirely relaxed (the frosting will be a mess if the pot brownies are not completely cool). Now all you must do is enjoy your homemade vegan weed brownie!

A Note on Edible Dosage

Anyone who has been around marijuana edibles knows that dosage is critical to successful consumption, and vegan edibles are no exception. There are several significant factors to think about before deciding how much of your brownie loot to take at once. First, is your cannabis oil made from buds or concentrates? Oil infused with a concentrate like BHO is nearly always more potent than oil infused with ground bud.

It’s also much easier to figure out how much THC you have. Let’s say you have one gram of BHO with a THC content of 70%. Since it is one gram, you deal with 700 mg of THC. Suppose you use a whole gram of cannabis to infuse the oil for this recipe and divide the mixture into 16 brownies. In this case, each serving contains 43.75 milligrams of THC.

The dosage is less precise if you use ground marijuana, but it still works similarly. Whatever method you use to prepare the oil for these vegan brownie edibles, start slowly and wait at least 90 minutes before moving on to the next step!
